Embracing Square Eyes: Movies & TV Shows

Share this:

My last post mentioned how social distancing has meant I’ve been living in PJs/workout clothes for weeks, but I’ve also been watching a ridiculous amount of movies & TV shows.
I have something on at least 90% of the time, sometimes just to have something on in the background.

Disney+ was released in the UK just in time for lockdown and it’s been an absolute godsend. I’ve mostly been watching things on there, but I do still check Netflix and Prime Videos from time to time.

Here’s what I’ve gotten through at the 6 week mark (no spoilers).
Prepare to despair!

The OC

I binged the whole show. Enjoyed the first season, but the rest was disappointing. This ended up being something I had on in the background while I was doing other things. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters, many of which were plain irritating.

I tried The Office, Dawson’s Creek, Desperate Housewives, The Purge, New Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, Parks & Recreation. Couldn’t get into any of them. My attention span is through the floor.

First time watches:
Beverly Hills Chihuahua 1 & 2

Yes, I stooped this low. I legit enjoyed the first film, but during the second I started to question my sanity.

Inspector Gadget 2

I loved the first Inspector Gadget film growing up and I just wanted to see what the sequel was like. It was light-hearted and entertaining, but a bit too childish even by my standards.

Christopher Robin

Winnie the Pooh was a huge part of my childhood. I’d heard mixed things about this film, but actually quite enjoyed it myself. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify aswell, it’s super chill.

Iron Will

An old film (1994). I struggle with old films, but enjoyed this more than I expected to. It was fairly predictable, but a touching story of determination.

Another oldie (1996), but you can’t go wrong with a Robin Williams film. You just can’t.

Fairy Tale Weddings

I freaking love this, but I can only handle 1 episode at a time because it reduces me to a blubbering puddle of tears.
Weddings generally make me cry, but this is next level.

Avengers: End Game

High-key offended. I have no comment.

Dolphin Reef

Disneynature documentaries are informative, but too childish for me. It was cute and I learnt stuff, but I don’t think I’ll be watching any others. Plus, Netflix has David Attenborough…..

High School Musical

Because why not? WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

Again, why not? A timeless classic.

Thor: Ragnarok

One of my favourite Marvel films. Chucked this on in the background while I was working one day.

Avengers: Infinity War

I fell asleep watching this in the cinema when it first came out (I fall asleep watching anything, which is why I usually end up doing other things whilst a film is on), so re-watched for the bits I missed.

First time watches:
Locke & Key

The concept of this was cool; the story had potential. The acting was awful. I felt the need to keep watching in the same way I did with things like Pretty Little Liars, and the ending was predictable. Would I watch a second season? Absolutely. I feel obliged. Why? I have no idea.

Tiger King

There was so much hype… But I couldn’t make it past the third episode. Episode 1 was entertaining, but it got weird so fast I completely lost interest. I tried putting episode 4 on while I was doing other stuff, but I couldn’t follow and then figured there was no point continuing.

The Platform

After all the kiddy stuff I’ve been watching, I needed a change.
I like gory stuff or a thriller here and there. This was fun.

Studio Ghibli

I loved The Borrowers growing up and I also love Studio Ghibli. This Ghibli version of The Borrowers is so sweet.

Spirited Away
My Neighbor Totoro
Howl’s Moving Castle

(PSA: I have dibs on marrying howl)

Has anyone gone as crazy as me on the TV binge? What movies & TV shows have you enjoyed watching lately?
