#1 Drugstore Mascara: L’Oreal Lash Paradise Extatic

Beauty bay palette ad banner

It felt like I waited an eternity for the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara to become available in the UK! It’s not often I see so much hype around a drugstore mascara.

There’s not much point in publishing this post, because everyone knows the deal with this product by now! But here it is anyway, because I’m an extra person and I also have a bit more to say than “this product is fab.

When I first saw this product in Boots, I actually didn’t purchase it right away. I wasn’t sure if it was the same as the original Lash Paradise that was released in the US because of the different name and packaging. [It’s proving to be quite a big learning curve for me to remember to take photos of product boxes before throwing them away. I don’t have the box for this, woops…]

L'oreal lash paradise extatic mascara and wand

[2021 update: It’s no longer the Lash Paradise Extatic – just plain old Lash Paradise!]

Packaging & First Impressions

Honestly the packaging isn’t great, but I try not to be too critical of drugstore products’ packaging – it’s affordable for a reason (£11.99|$15.88); something’s got to give and I’d much rather have a crappy looking product that does a fantastic job, than something that looks absolutely stunning but sucks at what it’s meant to do. It’s not horrendous – it looks quite pretty, just feels cheap.

The only difference between the Lash Paradise Extatic and the original Lash Paradise is castor oil. The extatic version contains the oil, which aids a super smooth application and promotes eyelash growth/thickening. My lashes are always really soft now, and I’m convinced they’re more voluminous too.

The wand was a fair bit bigger than I expected. I’m not a massive fan of big mascara wands, as I find it much harder to get into the outer corners and I’m more likely to poke my eyes out.

The castor oil definitely does its job. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such a smooth mascara application, even with more expensive mascaras. For my top lashes this stuff is AMAZING, but as predicted the larger wand makes it awkward for the bottom lashes.

This product is a perfect black and gives a ridiculous amount of length and volume. My lashes actually touch the lenses of my glasses when I use this mascara, with just one coat. I use my Maxfactor Masterpiece Max mascara on my bottom lashes because I prefer the tapered wand and a more subtle coat on the bottom, but the Lash Paradise definitely makes you look wide awake. It’s stunning. It also doesn’t clump, which is a huge positive for me.

Over the course of the day, this mascara doesn’t transfer or even fade. It’s not advertised as being waterproof, but it has amazing staying power and I have to work a bit harder to get it off at the end of the day, compared to other non-waterproof mascaras. I don’t have to scrub so hard that I irritate my eyes, so I’m perfectly okay with that.

Overall, I rate this product a 4.5/5.
The only drawbacks for me are the packaging and the shape/size of the wand. Honestly, the quality of this product is so great that the packaging isn’t even significant enough for me to moan about. Wand preferences are entirely personal and I know a lot of people love the bigger ones, plus I’m able to get the perfect combo with my Masterpiece Max so it’s no biggie. I highly recommend this mascara! I actually think it’s heaps better than Benefit’s Roller Lash (if that’s anything to go by) and it’s only a fraction of the price.

Have you tried L’Oreal Lash Paradise? What’s your go-to mascara?
